March 2010 "WHICH" report on bra fitting service
In January this year, the independent consumer advice company Which? published a report on bra fitting services, after trying and testing major high street and specialist lingerie retailers. Which? had 11 researchers aged 25 to 75, go onto the high street and visited 70 department stores and shops in search of finding the perfect fitting bra.
Overall, the survey made very distressing reading for women everywhere, showing that so many had been badly fitted by clearly inexperienced and untrained staff!
The results were shocking with the report’s findings showing that less than one in three bra fittings were correctly fitted.
The report, which can be read by clicking here exposed an alarming reality – that many lingerie retailers lack the fundamental fitting knowledge and expertise. Surely a professional knowledgeable fitting service is an essential component to any retailer specialising in the sale of lingerie?

Sept 2009 Get Size Wise
For many women a good fitting bra would seem essential but experts still believe up to 80% of women are not wearing a bra that fits correctly. A Which report found that only 75 high street fittings resulted in a correctly fitting bra. To ensure that customers purchase the right sized bra for them it is important to go to outlets which offer a knowledgeable person.
Due to varying brands and sizes it really does take an expert with experience and practice to help find that perfect fit. Bare Necessities of Marple, celebrating 23 years in business offers just that from their store on Market Street in the centre of Marple.
Owner Julie Matthews believes that many ladies are wearing at least one cup size too small and a back size that is too big. Not only does that mean that there is very little or no support but it also does not show off your figure to its full potential. Wearingthe correct size bra can help transform your figure putting the curves back in the right places and can change your silhouette dramatically.
Julie says that it is important to be refitted regularly as your breast size can change due to weight
change, illness and age. The store is hosting another of their popular Bra Fitting Events from Monday 14th September to Saturday 19th September. Joining Julie and the girls at Bare Necessities on Friday 18th, from 10am to 4pm, will be a fitting consultant from Prima Donna and Marie Jo.
If would like to see her you will need to book an appointment in advance. In addition to the free fitting service they are offering 10% off bras purchase. There will be a prize draw at the end of the week when two lucky ladies will receive a bra free of charge. The store is extremely well stocked having built up a sound and extensive base of well fitting bras and matching lingerie.
They also specialise in maternity bras from Royce and Anita in all sizes. Due to the increasing interest in personal heath and fitness Bare Necessities have extended their sports bra range with Triumph, Marie Jo Intense and the Freya Active which goes from 30” to 40” and up to a H cup - minimising the bounce without compression to give a really good shape under fitted tops.

Autumn 2008
This Autumn we held a Fitting Event in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
“I decided to fundraise for Breast Cancer because it has touched so many people. I myself lost my mother and several family members to the disease and have regular check ups at the Family History Clinic. For women a good fitting bra would seem essential but experts still believe up to 77% of women are not wearing a bra that fits correctly.

Ladies could call in to get help and advice to make sure they are wearing the correct size and style of bra for them.
This is something we do during the normal course of a working day but these events try to reach out to ladies who have not had that one to one help.
The week finished on national Pink Day which spread into a Pink Weekend where pink bubbly, canapés and gorgeous pink cup cakes – (very kindly donated by our local confectioners ‘Archers’)

This summer we staged an Open Air Swimwear Fashion Show in the centre of Marple in aid of the Martha Campaign. Martha is a delightful little girl from Marple who is sadly suffering from a rare kidney complaint. More info go to www.findacure4martha.org.uk
